デヴィッド・ボウイ(David Bowie)が1971年12月にリリースしたアルバム『Hunky Dory』。このアルバムのリリースに至るまでの12ヶ月間のボウイの軌跡をたどる新しいボックスセット『Divine Symmetry』がストリーミング配信開始。





この作品は11月25日発売。ホームデモ、BBCラジオ・セッション、ライヴ&スタジオ録音など、多数の未発表音源を収録しています。リリース元はParlophone Records。

ボックスセットはCD4枚+Blu-ray1枚の5枚組。

48曲の未発表音源/デモと、オリジナル共同プロデューサーのケン・スコットによる『Hunky Dory』の新しいオルタナティブ・ミックスが収録されています。

また『Divine Symmetry』には2冊の本が付属されており、100ページのハードカバー本には、ライナーノーツ、貴重な記念品、写真が掲載されています。もう一冊は当時のボウイのノートを復刻したもので、計60ページに手書きの歌詞、衣装図面、レコーディングノート、セットリストなど掲載されています。

ライナーノーツは、ボウイの研究家であるトリス・ペンナがこのリリースのために執筆したもので、100ページのハードカバー本にはさらに、『Hunky Dory』の共同プロデューサーであるケン・スコット、ボウイの生涯の友人であるジェフ・マコーマックとジョージ・アンダーウッド、歌手のダナ・ギレスピー、ギター奏者のマーク・プリチェット、イギリスのクラブ「フライアーズ・エールズベリー」のプロモーターであるデヴィッド・ストップス、出版のボブ・グレース、写真家のルアン・リチャードが寄稿しています。

2023年2月24日には、本ボックス・セットに収録されている「A DIVINE SYMMETRY (AN ALTERNATIVE JOURNEY THROUGH HUNKY DORY)」の音源全12曲を収録したアナログレコード1枚版も発売される予定です。

1971年はボウイにとって極めて重要な年でした。RCAとレコード契約を結び、ニューヨーク滞在中にアンディ・ウォーホル、ルー・リード、イギー・ポップと出会い、そして父親となり、父としての誇りを示すために「KOOKS」という曲を書き、6月にはミック・ロンソン、ウディ・ウッドマンジー、トレヴァー・ボルダーという、後にスパイダース・フロム・マーズと命名されるバンドと初めてライヴ演奏を行い、さらに名盤『Hunky Dory』をレコーディングしています。
