ジ・オーブ（The Orb）はキャリアを網羅した最新コンピレーションアルバム『Orboretum: The Orb Collection』を海外で10月25日発売。リリース元はCooking Vinyl。

CDは2枚組、アナログレコードは4枚組。デジタル配信もあります。

創設メンバーのアレックス・パターソン（Alex Paterson）によって編集されたこの作品には、1991年の『The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld』や『A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld』、『Little Fluffy Clouds』から、最近のアルバム『Abolition Of The Royal Familia』や『Prism』に至るまでを網羅。新音源やレアなミックスも含まれます。

パターソンはこう話しています。

「ジ・オーブはロキシー・ミュージックのようにベスト盤を出し続けるような終わり方はしたくない。ロキシー・ミュージックは常にベスト盤をリリースし続けていたが、僕らには2013年に『History Of The Future』、2015年にそのパート2をリリースした。とはいえ、僕たちには膨大な楽曲があるので、自分が何をしてきたかを思い出す必要があるときもある。最近は特にそう。これは、僕たちの作品を再構成し、新たな神経経路を作り、新たな対比を行う、いわばディレクターズ・カットのようなもの。これらのトラックの中には30年もの隔たりがありますが、そこには明確な一貫性があります」

アナログレコードは、4枚組の8角形カラーレコードセットとして発売されます。各面は、パターソンが4つの季節を表現するためにグループ分けした透明のカラーグリーン、ライラック、オレンジ、ブルーでプレスされます。このタイトルには植物学的な意味があり、ディスクAとBにはユニバーサル・レコードのために制作した作品を、ディスクCとDにはインディーズレーベルのCooking Vinyl、 Kompakt、Malicious Damage、Liquid Sound Designのために制作した作品を収録しています。
