Sorry to hear of the demise, after a long illness, of one of the greatest songwriters of my generation, Shane MacGowan. The Pogues reinvigorated folk music in the early 80s and his songs put the focus onto lyric writing, opening doors for the likes of myself and others.

Very sad to hear of the passing of the great Shane MacGowan. Justin Earle would be heartbroken.

I went on before him once at Glastonbury when he
was with The Popes and they played a beautifully
shambolic set RS pic.twitter.com/u3TtdRzUix
Farewell Shane MacGowan. A life lived to the full. A lyrical genius. An inspiration to so many of us who wanted to be in bands. I followed The Pogues to far flung places, met Shane a few times and watched some of the most exhilarating shows I’ve ever witnessed

We lived in the same city, but I only met Shane McGowan 3 times, never in Dublin. I encountered him as a shy yet direct man with a huge heart and a mountain of character. That, and his formidable songwriting skill, is how I think of him. May he rock, rave & rabble-rouse in peace.

There will only ever be one Shane MacGowan. Rest in peace - Rick x pic.twitter.com/MatDUEkDzJ

SongOfTheDay 11/30/23 Dirty Old Town, by The Pogues, from Rum, Sodomy, & The Lash (1985). Shane MacGowan sang a lovely Irish Two Step from his infamous broken mouth of horrendous teeth (fixed in 2015). The Real Deal For Real. Rest In Peace, Olde Sod.
