グレイトフル・デッド　72年欧州ツアー50周年記念作品　24LP『LYCEUM 1972』＆『Europe '72』リマスター版他

グレイトフル・デッド（Grateful Dead）は50年前の1972年4月、ヨーロッパ・ツアーをスタートさせました。この模様は、3枚組ライヴ・アルバム『Europe '72』や、73枚組CDボックスセット『Europe '72: The Complete Recordings』としてリリースされています。

RhinoとデッドのサイトDead.netは、ツアー50周年を記念して新しい作品のリリースを発表しています。

一つ目の『LYCEUM 1972: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS』は、ロンドンのLyceum Theatreで行われたツアーの最終4公演を初めて180グラム重量盤アナログレコードで収録した24枚組のボックスセットです。デッド史上最大のレコードボックスセット。4,000セット限定。7月29日発売で、現在Dead.netで独占予約受付中です。

『LYCEUM 1972: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS』は、ブライアン・ブロマースによる新しいアートワークのカラフルなスリップケースに収められています。4つの公演は個別のクラムシェル・ボックスに収められ、それぞれのボックスには『Europe '72: The Complete Recordings』の各公演のためにScott McDougallが作成したジャケット・アートが施されています。付属の本には、デッド研究家として知られるNicholas MeriwetherによるLyceum Theatre公演の新たな詳細な考察が収録されています。

また、7月29日には、新たにリマスターされたライヴ・アルバム『Europe '72』のリマスター盤『EUROPE '72 (50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION) 』も発売されます。CD2枚組、180グラム重量盤アナログレコード3枚組、ストリーミング、Apple LosslessやFLAC 96/24を含むデジタルダウンロード版で発売される予定です。

『EUROPE '72 (50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION) 』はDead.netでは、6月3日に発売される「Bozo or Bolo」3枚組LPも取り扱っています。これは5,000枚限定で、この特別版はオリジナル・アルバムの象徴的なジャケット・デザインを再現したサイケデリックなレインボー・ヴァイナルにプレスされています。それぞれのLPは、透明な色とネオンカラーの虹が交互に配置された50対50の色分けが特徴です。

アニヴァーサリー・リリースの最後を飾るのは『LYCEUM THEATRE: MAY 26, 1972』です。この4枚組CDは、デッドのヨーロッパ・ツアーの最終公演にスポットライトを当てたものでRhinoから発売されます。注目すべきは、翌年3月に亡くなった創設メンバー、ロン・"ピッグペン"・マッカーナンが参加した最後の公演でもあること。ピッグペンは健康状態に問題があったにもかかわらず、「Chinatown Shuffle」「Good Lovin'」「The Stranger (Two Souls In Communion)」などのカリスマ的パフォーマンスでヨーロッパの聴衆に衝撃を与えました。
