ジョニ・ミッチェルの新作ボックスセットにジミヘンが録音した68年の未発表ライヴ音源収録　1曲試聴可

ジョニ・ミッチェル（Joni Mitchell）は、1968年にジミ・ヘンドリックス（Jimi Hendrix）が録音した未発表ライヴ・パフォーマンス音源をリリースします。この録音のテープは当時盗まれ、永遠に失われたと思われていましたが、最近になって発掘されています。この録音はミッチェルのアーカイブス・ボックスセットの新作『Joni Mitchell Archives - Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971)』に収録される予定で、海外で10月29日に発売されます。ボックスセットの発売に先立ち、「The Dawntreader」が先行公開されています。

これは、1968年3月19日にカナダのオンタリオ州オタワのコーヒーハウス「Le Hibou」にて、4日後に発売されるデビューアルバム『Song To A Seagull』を前に、ミッチェルが2週間の滞在中に録音したものです。

その日の夜、ジミ・ヘンドリックスは、1kmほど離れたキャピトル・シアターで演奏していました。ヘンドリックスはこの日、ミッチェルと電話で話し、そのことを日記にこう記していました。

「ジョニ・ミッチェルと電話で話した。今夜、僕の優れたテープレコーダーで彼女を録音しようと思う（幸運が訪れますように）」

その夜、ヘンドリックスは約束通りオープンリールレコーダーを持ってLe Hibouにやってきて、誰にも気づかれないようにステージの前にひざまずいて、その晩のミッチェルの2回の公演を録音しました。

日記にも書かれているように、ヘンドリックスは、当時の他の多くの人々と同様に、ミッチェルに魅了されました。「天国の言葉を持つファンタスティックな女の子だ」。

『Joni Mitchell Archives - Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971)』のライナーノーツの中で、ミッシェルは次のように述べています。

「彼らがやってきて、“ジミ・ヘンドリックスが来ているよ、正面玄関にいる”と教えてくれました。私は彼に会いに行きました。彼は大きな箱を持っていた。彼は私に“僕の名前はジミ・ヘンドリックス。あなたと同じレーベルに所属しています。リプライズ・レコードだ”と言った。私たちはほぼ同時期に契約していました。彼は“君のショーを録音したいんだ。いいかい？”。私は“いいですよ”と答えました。箱の中には大きなオープンリール式のテープレコーダーが入っていました。

ステージは地面から1フィートほどしか離れていなかった。彼は私の足元にマイクを置いて、ステージの端にひざまずいた。ショーの間、彼はずっとツマミを回し続けていた。彼が何を操作していたのかは分からない、音量かな？　彼は針か何かを見ながらツマミをいじっていた。彼はこのテープをきれいに録音した。もちろん、私はショーの一部を彼に聴かせた。彼は私の真下にいたのだから」

ヘンドリックスのテープは数日後に盗難に遭い、永遠に失われたと思われていましたが、最近になってカナダ国立図書館・文書館（Library and Archives Canada）に寄贈された個人のコレクションの中から発見され、ミッチェルのもとに戻ってきています。
