ジョニ・ミッチェル（Joni Mitchell）のキャリアの中から未発表音源にスポットを当てる大規模なアーカイブ・プロジェクト『Joni Mitchell Archives』の第1弾『Joni Mitchell Archives Volume 1: The Early Years (1963-1967)』。ストリーミング配信開始。119曲がYouTubeほかで聴けます。

ジョニ・ミッチェルが初めて彼女の金庫室を開け、包括的なアーカイブ・シリーズをファンに提供するこのシリーズ。第1弾は海外で10月30日発売。リリース元はRhino。日本盤は歌詞、解説の日本語訳が添付され11月25日にリリースされる予定。

タイトルからも分かるように、第1弾では、ミッチェルがデビュー・アルバム『Song to a Seagull』（1968年）を発表するまでの数年間をカバーしています。

これまでにリリースされていない約6時間の音源が特徴で、「Michael From Mountains」や「I Had a King」などの初期ヴァージョン、1965年に放送されたCBC TVの番組『Let’s Sing Out』のミニ・セット、ニール・ヤング「Sugar Mountain」のレアなカヴァー、そして「Free Darling」「Mr. Junk」「Chelsea Morning」の1967年のニューヨーク・ホーム・デモなどを収録。この作品は、1967年10月27日にミシガン州アナーバーのカンタベリー・ハウスでライヴ録音されたナイトクラブショー（3セット）で幕を閉じます。

第1弾には、新しいライナーノーツや、ミッチェルの個人コレクションからの未公開写真が掲載された40ページのブックレットも付属されます。

海外では同日の10月30日に、アナログレコード1枚『Early Joni -1963』と、1967年10月27日ミシガン州アナーバー公演のライヴ音源を収めたアナログレコード3枚組『Live at the Canterbury House-1967』も発売されます。
