ポール・マッカートニー（Paul McCartney）は、自身のキャリアを網羅した歌詞の本『The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present』の新しいトレーラー映像を公開



この本は海外で11月2日発売。出版元はAllen Lane。

計154曲を収録。

2巻から成るこの本の目玉の一つは、ビートルズ（The Beatles）の未録音曲「Tell Me Who He Is」の手書きの歌詞です。この未公開の歌詞は、1960年代初頭に作成されたと思われるノートから発掘されたものです。

歌詞には、ソロ活動や、ビートルズやウイングス（Wings）時代の楽曲から、「Blackbird」「Live and Let Die」「Hey Jude」「Band on the Run」「Yesterday」などが含まれています。

このコレクションには、手書きの歌詞と、未発表の写真、下書き、絵が含まれています。また、各曲には、ポールによる創作過程についての解説も付いています。

この本の序文で、ポールは歌詞ノートを公開することにした理由について、こう書いています。

「自伝を書かないかと聞かれたことは数え切れないほどありますが、なかなかタイミングが合いませんでした。家にいても旅をしていても、僕がいつもやっていることは、新しい曲を書くことです。ある程度の年齢になると、過去の日々の出来事を思い出すために日記をつけたがる人がいるのを知っていますが、僕にはそのようなノートはありません。僕が持っているのは、何百曲もの自分の曲で、それが同じような役割を果たすことを学びました。そして、これらの曲は僕の人生全体を網羅しています」

ポールは、ピューリッツァー賞を受賞した作家ポール・マルドゥーンと5年間にわたって共同作業を行い、この本に命を吹き込みました。マルドゥーンは声明の中で「この本は、これまでにないほど自伝に近いものです」と述べています。

この本の発売に合わせて、英ロンドンの大英図書館では、2021年11月5日から2022年3月13日まで＜Paul McCartney: The Lyrics＞と題した無料の展示会を行います。この展示会では、ポールの個人的なアーカイブから未公開の歌詞や、彼のキャリアを網羅した写真などが展示されます。
