デヴィッド・ボウイ『The Man Who Sold the World』時代の未リリース音源21曲も収めたアルバム発売

デヴィッド・ボウイ（David Bowie）が1970年にリリースしたアルバム『The Man Who Sold the World（邦題：世界を売った男）』。発売50周年を記念して、この時代の未リリース音源21曲を含む全34曲を収録したアルバム『The Width Of A Circle（邦題：ウィドゥス・オブ・ア・サークル〜円軌道の幅〜）』が海外で5月28日、日本で6月9日に発売。リリース元はPARLOPHONE／ワーナーミュージック。

『The Man Who Sold the World』は2020年、アルバム・タイトルを当初予定されていた『Metrobolist』に変更し、オリジナル・プロデューサーのトニー・ヴィスコンティ（Tony Visconti）が新たにミックスを担当した50thアニヴァーサリー・エディションがリリースされました。

今回リリースされるCD2枚組のアルバムは、『The Man Who Sold the World』の補完的な作品。アルバム・タイトルはボウイの友人であるジョージ・アンダーウッドが描いた絵にちなんで名付けられたアルバムのオープニング曲「The Width Of A Circle」から。アルバム未収録のシングル曲、BBC In Concertのパフォーマンス音源、テレビ番組用の音楽を収め、さらにトニー・ヴィスコンティによるリミックス音源など、1970年のボウイによるレコーディング音源をまとめあげた作品となっており、同時に彼の次なるアルバム『Hunky Dory』へと続くサウンドの歩みを垣間見せてくれる作品となっています。

この新たなヴィスコンティ・リミックスから4曲を収めたシングル『The Width Of A Circle』がボウイの公式ストアで発売されます。10インチ・アナログレコード、ハイレゾ・デジタルEPがあります。

また、同日には『The Man Who Sold the World』のピクチャーディスク仕様のアナログレコードもリリースされます。このレコードでは、1972年にリリースされた同アルバムの印象的な白黒イメージをフィーチャーしています。

This stereo mix of the above remained unreleased until the reformatted reissue of the Sound & Vision box set in 2003, replacing the mono mix.
